CASA of the Coastal Bend is picking up speed again in 2012!  Though this will be our 7th annual CASA 5K, we would like to announce the 1st Annual CASA Superhero Run presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. The race against child abuse can be a long battle, so we are calling on all of our partners in the community to join us as Superheroes for children.  Every child needs a hero; abused and neglected children need Superheroes.  Whether you don a cape to help protect a child’s rights, the mask of justice to advocate for a child’s best interest, or use your super power of speaking up for a child, you too can become a Superhero by supporting CASA of the Coastal Bend.

The goal of the Superhero Run is to raise awareness of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and the great work that our volunteer advocates do, as well as, to recruit more volunteer advocates and to raise funds to support our mission of a CASA for every child.  All proceeds from our race will     directly benefit CASA of the Coastal Bend in our efforts to recruit and train CASA volunteers to give a voice to abused and neglected children in court and the foster care system.

CASA of the Coastal Bend’s more than 200 volunteer advocates served 400 abused and neglected   children in 2011, but unfortunately this is only half of the children in the foster care system in the Coastal Bend area.  We want to serve all of these children by ensuring they all have CASA volunteer advocates.  Our CASA volunteers gain a firm understanding of a child’s case and serve as the “eyes and ears” to a judge.  They bring a strong voice and a helping heart to find each child a safe, permanent home.  Our vision is that every abused child in Nueces, San Patricio and Aransas Counties have a CASA volunteer because as Marilyn Dietrich, a CASA volunteer, says, “These kids need someone to fight for them- for what they need- for what is best for them so that they will have a future  that is better than their past.”  Marilyn has been a Superhero for her CASA children, and we want more Superheroes like her!

Our 2012 CASA Superhero 5K Run, which will include a special kids 1K, will consist of a variety of family friendly activities, including the Blue Bear Van and Bear, CCPD McGruff Crime Dog, CCFD trucks, WIC, and many more.  With the help of our volunteers and community partners, our goal is to have more than 500 individuals from our community participating in the festivities on the morning of May 5, 2012.  We would love for you to join us and be a sponsor of this exciting event; and more    importantly, we want you to have the opportunity to take part in something that makes a difference for our community, makes a difference for families, and definitely makes a difference for children in our area.

Please inquire wtih Page Hall or Joe Fernandez at 361-884-2272 about our sponsorship opportunities.  We would love for you to join our Superhero ranks by getting involved in the fight against child abuse and neglect.  Together, we can protect our community and be the voice of children in the Coastal Bend; won’t you stand by our side and be the Superhero a child has been waiting for?

With a thankful heart,

Page H. Hall
Executive Director, CASA of the Coastal Bend
